As Lincoln Director of Product Development, Scott Tobin is helping the brand re-establish itself as a premier luxury automobile company. He is at the helm of creating a new lineup of cars that are visually distinctive and deliver a dynamic and intuitive driving experience.
Tobin’s international automotive experience spans Asia and Europe, bringing a diverse automotive background to his position at Lincoln.
Tobin joined Ford in 1989 and held a number of assignments in Powertrain Engineering and the Product Business and Strategy Office. In 1997, he was assigned to Mazda as manager of Powertrain systems for the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute joint program launched in 1999.
In late 1999, Tobin moved to Germany for Ford of Europe, where he contributed to the development of global C-car programs. In 2001, he was promoted to chief engineer of powertrain applications for Ford of Europe, which was based in England.
From 2003 to 2006, he was vice president of Quality for Ford of Europe. While in Europe, Tobin was also a member of Ford of Germany Supervisory Board and the European Operating Committee.
Upon his return to the US, Tobin was appointed Vehicle Line Director for North American cars and crossovers. In this position, he was responsible for the Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, Ford Taurus, Flex and Explorer, Mustang and other product development programs.
His latest assignment is part of the company’s commitment to expand and enhance Lincoln. The Lincoln product momentum began with the all-new Lincoln MKZ midsize sedan and continues with the introduction of the Lincoln MKC, the brand’s first small utility. It is on sale now, and will be joined by a dramatically refreshed Lincoln Navigator large utility.
Tobin has been all over the world but still enjoys going back to his childhood home in Blue Lake, Michigan, and owns a cabin there in the western part of the state near Muskegon. He and his family — wife Mary and two sons, Nicholas and Lucas — visit the area often to boat, water-ski, ride quads and play golf.
Tobin holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Michigan.
